Congratulations to all toxic workplace survivors! If you are on the job market, protect yourself by identifying signs of inclusive workplace practices before spending hours submitting applications, participating in interviews, and completing new employee training!
Questions to Ask on Inclusive Workplace Practices
Consider these questions as you review company website, social media, & network with existing and former employees on LinkedIn!
1. Have several employees of color, LGBTQ+ employees, or employees living with disabilities left the organization in a short period of time?
2. Does the diversity of the company’s online presence (e.g., photos on website, commitment statements on social media) reflect the diversity of their executive leaders?
3. If there are people of color in leadership roles, how long have they been in those roles?
4. Have any EEOC complaints or lawsuits been filed against the employer?
5. For nonprofits, are the board of directors identifiable and minutes accessible (as a risk management team, workforce discrimination issues might be visible in their historical record)?
